BACKEND BASICS

What happens when someone uses your app?

A backend is the part of an app that receives requests, applies rules, stores information, and sends a response.

1 · Request

A phone or website asks for something, such as GET /products.

2 · Route and logic

Your backend chooses a route, checks the request, and decides what should happen.

3 · Data

The backend reads or changes records. Starters use temporary memory; real services need a database.

4 · Response

The backend returns a status and JSON, which the app can display.

What this file does

Select a file to see how it fits into a backend.

How a request travelsApp / browser→Route→Logic→Data→JSON response
Starter API routes

GET /health checks whether the service is running.

GET /items lists records · POST /items creates one · GET /items/1 reads one · DELETE /items/1 removes one.

Try your API

Run your project and try its local URL, or test a deployed URL. Browser calls need CORS enabled on the API.

Response status, time, and body will appear here.
AI proposal
Describe a change and review the proposed files before applying.
Live runner outputLocal only · stops when you press Stop backend
Choose Run API server to start your backend. The process stays on until you stop it.
BEGINNER DEPLOYMENT CHECKLIST
